The Historic Edwards-Franklin House, located at 4132 Haystack Road, Mount Airy, North Carolina, will resume its Open House to the public for 2023.
The Edwards-Franklin House was constructed in 1799 and is considered to be the finest example of its architecture in the Piedmont. The house was constructed by Gideon Edwards and later occupied by his son-in-law Meshack Franklin. It was purchased in 1972 by the Surry County Historical Society and restored to its grandeur. The house features many unique architectural components.
Everyone is welcome to this free event. We hope the public will join us in learning about and touring this historic treasure.

Preserving the Past for the People
Our purpose is to preserve the history and culture of Surry County, North Carolina and interpret it to the community.
Our business is to preserve and maintain historic sites with research, programs, publishing, collection of documents and photographs, the identification, cataloging and labeling of sites, maintenance of archives, and cooperation with other organizations.
Our heritage and community values are worth saving and passing along. We are dedicated to the integrity and accuracy of research and documentation, and to enabling people to appreciate what life in the past was like.
We wish to address and prevent our children growing up not knowing their local history, the neglect and loss of sites, and any ignorance of local traditions and history.
What makes us unique is our interest in local history, our promotion of scholarship and investigation, our interpretation of history in authentic period settings, and our leadership in Surry County in identifying and preserving historical sites.
We do this to benefit future generations, visitors, interested citizens, teachers and their students, and all people with roots in Surry County, North Carolina.
