Edwards-Franklin House
The Historic Edwards-Franklin House is open to the public on select days during the summer months. Built by Gideon Edwards in 1799, the house was the centerpiece of a 2,330 acre plantation farmed by by fifty slaves. On the grounds you can see both the family and slave cemeteries, and the remains of an early water system. The inside of the house contains panels that narrate the history of the house along with unique architectural and decorating features.
You can find a schedule of open-house dates here.

Preserving the Past for the People
Our purpose is to preserve the history and culture of Surry County, North Carolina and interpret it to the community.
Our business is to preserve and maintain historic sites with research, programs, publishing, collection of documents and photographs, the identification, cataloging and labeling of sites, maintenance of archives, and cooperation with other organizations.
Our heritage and community values are worth saving and passing along. We are dedicated to the integrity and accuracy of research and documentation, and to enabling people to appreciate what life in the past was like.
We wish to address and prevent our children growing up not knowing their local history, the neglect and loss of sites, and any ignorance of local traditions and history.
What makes us unique is our interest in local history, our promotion of scholarship and investigation, our interpretation of history in authentic period settings, and our leadership in Surry County in identifying and preserving historical sites.
We do this to benefit future generations, visitors, interested citizens, teachers and their students, and all people with roots in Surry County, North Carolina.
